After so many claims and delays, finally the Government of Pakistan is taking a practical step which is highly essential for the country and has decided to present the National Cyber Security in the parliament tomorrow.
Looking at the seriousness of the matter, the government has made the National Cyber Security Bill a part of National Action Plan and now the bill will be presented to the parliament directly, instead of the Cabinet, in order to minimize further delay.
The decision was publicized during a meeting of Senate Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication (IT&T), led by Chairperson Muhammad Idrees Khan Safi on Wednesday, Jan14, 2015.
The committee has also made a sub-committee to discuss “the Protection of Cyber Crimes Bill 2014″ on the input of Senator Karim Ahmad Khawaja.
During the meeting, Minister for IT&T Anusha Rehman stated the importance of Cyber Crime Law and told that the bill was supposed to be presented to the cabinet after the approval of the Prime Minister however the Prime Minister was requested to send it to the National Assembly directly to minimize any delay.
Dr. Ismail Shah, Chairman PTA also briefed the parliamentary panel regarding the re-verification of 103 million mobile SIMS within 90 days where he was being recommended to introduce mobile BVS (Biometric Verification System) in order to facilitate the masses for the re-verification process.
The prevention of Electronic Crime Bill (PECO) 2014 has been prepared with the incorporation of the Ministry, stakeholders and law enforcing agencies which is about to be presented in the parliament for approval.
It is undeniable fact that Pakistan is facing serious cybercrime threats in the absence of cyber law however, Law Enforcement Agencies like FIA have already started to curb the menace of cyber crimes and has launched a Cyber Crime SMS Alert Service. With the introduction of Cyber Law in the country, the situation of law and order can be made better. Besides, the e-commerce industry can grow exponentially with the implementation of cyber security regulations.
